John A. Molinari, PhD

Dr. Molinari is Professor Emeritus at the University of Detroit Mercy School of
Dentistry, where he served for 32 years as Professor and Chairman of the Department of
Biomedical Sciences and Director of Infection Control. After leaving the University, he
was Director of Infection Control for THE DENTAL ADVISOR in Ann Arbor,
Michigan, where he was involved in research evaluating new infection control
technologies and products. He has published over 600 scientific articles, reports, text
chapters, and abstracts in the areas of microbiology and immunology, and continues to
lecture nationally and internationally on topics dealing with infectious diseases and
infection control. Dr. Molinari is also co-author of the text Cottone’s Practical Infection
Control in Dentistry. He served as a consultant for the CDC, ADA Council on Scientific
Affairs, Council on Dental Practice, and regional hospitals. Dr. Molinari also was
Chairman of the State of Michigan Governor’s Risk Reduction and AIDS Policy
Commission and a member of the Michigan Board of Dentistry. In addition, he was the
Infection Control section editor for The Compendium of Continuing Education in
Dentistry, a member of the Editorial Board for The Journal of the American Dental
Association, and contributed a monthly column for Dental Economics.

Infectious diseases described over the past 5 decades include those caused by newly
discovered microbial pathogens, re-emergent diseases, and infections which have
become increasingly resistant to previously successful antimicrobials. The COVID-
19 pandemic presented the latest challenge to infection control in both medical and
dental facilities. This seminar will primarily focus on discussion occupational blood-
borne, respiratory, and waterborne pathogens as frameworks for the presentation.
Also, myths which damage control against vaccine-preventable diseases will be
discussed. Measles will be used as an important example of this emerging public
health threat.

Dr. Joanne Conaway is a Registered Nurse, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, and Doctor of Traditional Naturopathic Medicine with over 40 years of healthcare experience. A business owner and international speaker, she specializes in the role of the gastrointestinal system in overall health.

Conaway served 20 years in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves as an Aeromedical Evacuation Nurse, deploying during 'Operation Just Cause' and 'Operation Desert Storm'.
